My book TEA ON THE GREAT WALL is in my hand, a hard copy. It is in the stores in Shanghai, hard copies. It iS in the hands of about 80 people who have bought hard copies from me as I purchased copies for my own use. But in the stores in the US and other areas? on Amazon? NO.
Here comes the mystery. Why oh why have the US distributors chosen JULY ! as their launch date? The printing date llsted in the book: JANUARY 2015. Makes no sense.
I don’t know now what has been the point of promoting the book these past couple of months. Just three days ago I celebrated the birth of the book at my home (see photo.) . By the time hard copies are available everyone will be bored with it and with my talking and writing about it. And the pre-orderers of the book will get sick of waiting around for their orders to be filled.
FORTUNATELY there are Kindle copies on Amazon, and these are selling. I happen to like to hold a book in my hands, and some people of my vintage don’t use computers, but otherwise the eBooks are very popular and I do know that some of my friends have bought them. People who travel or live in tight quarters buy them exclusively. So maybe all is not hopeless.
At least the letters I’ve received all begin with “I couldn’t put it down.” “I read it from start to finish.” “It is exciting and funny.” “It demonstrates how China’s past leads to its actions of today.” So that pleases me. Maybe after all it’s worth the struggle!
